Heinrich Böll Stiftung Istanbul &
30 Years of Civil Society and Politics in Turkey
This exhibition commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Turkey Office. These three decades have witnessed pivotal moments in Turkey's history – periods that will undoubtedly captivate future historians. These 30 years encapsulate the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Turkey Office's journey and the broader narrative of Turkish civil society. In a wider context, they mirror the transformations of the world over the past three decades.
The exhibition showcases posters from the foundation’s events over the past 30 years, divided into five sections and seamlessly integrated into the office space using custom wooden frames. Each frame is made with wooden slats featuring grooves where the posters can easily slide in and out, allowing for future reuse.
Next to the posters, plexiglass-mounted texts are placed to highlight key social and political events from Turkey’s history, as well as small photo albums featuring important moments from both the country and the foundation. Visitors can explore these events year by year, unfolding the stories and images as they go.
As the exhibition route followed, guided by a brochure, the visitor can gain a deeper understanding of both Heinrich Böll Stiftung’s impact and the political landscape of Turkey over the past three decades.
*Heinrich Böll Stiftung is a political NGO close to the German Green Party, but institutionally independent. It is also part of the global green movement.
